Shell and Seattle’s Titantic Failure

Written by Ariel Shultz

Shell Oil is in the process of signing a lease with The Port of Seattle to establish what will essentially be a base-of-operations for Shell’s Arctic drilling.

In 2012, Shell used a supposedly indestructible, specially-built tanker, also out of Seattle, which resulted in two groundings and the crew having to be air lifted off. Read the full details on the 2012 incident here.

The final say on whether or not the Arctic will be open to drilling by Shell will be decided this month by President Obama. Feel free to write to him or sign this petition.

Also, if you live in the Seattle area, there is a public hearing on the issue. Make your voice heard and get Shell out of Seattle!
